For my soundscape project, I wanted to collect sounds that were naturally occurring and relatively peaceful. The recordings that I provided the shared folder with were sounds I heard from nature. I recorded crickets or maybe peeping frogs from my balcony, a squeaking animal noise - possibly a bat, my windchimes blowing in the breeze, and rainy thunder noises on a walk home. The sounds that I collected from the shared folder were mostly robotic or electronic noises, but also the sounds of coyotes howling, a dog whimpering, water flowing, and the peaceful sounds of an outdoor courtyard. After listening through the collection of sounds from my classmates I realized that my soundscape would have to combine the natural sounds with more artificial, humanized, and staged sounds. I wanted to contrast the noises so that there was a clear difference between the more abrupt noises typical for humans everyday life and more peaceful noises, free of city sounds. I also wanted it to be like domestication vs the wild, and I tried to emphasize this with the coyote sounds sort of eating the domestic dog. When I first started the project, I thought that it would sound cool if the beginning was a more electronic beat. I overlapped a tamagotchi noise with a cars engine starting up and repeated noises from a gas stove clicking. From the critique, I learned that this part was really effective at grabbing the attention of my classmates, they were really intrigued with the beat in the beginning. One thing that I think I could have done a more precise job at was creating smoother transitions. Sometimes things were intentionally stopped abruptly for dramatic effect - like the end of the dogs whimper, but after reading some comments I totally could hear where some sounds did not flow into other sounds as seamlessly as I may have been able to get them.
